Where Williamsburg design meets Marrakech craftsmanship
It started in a Williamsburg walk-up—frustration with bulky bags that couldn’t survive NYC’s pace. We sketched leaner designs on café napkins, obsessed with urban durability.
We discovered a 5th-generation leather workshop in Marrakech’s medina. Their hand-stitching (8 stitches per inch) and vegetable tanning techniques perfected our designs.
"We believe good design disappears—so you can focus on where you’re going, not what you’re carrying."
Today, every BKLN piece still begins in Brooklyn and ends with a craftsman’s hands in Marrakech.
"Every stitch carries two stories: the precision of our Brooklyn studio and the centuries-old wisdom of Marrakech’s medina craftsmen. We work exclusively with family-run ateliers—not because it’s easy, but because hands that know leather like their own palms make pieces that last lifetimes. As we grow, we measure success not in units sold, but in relationships sustained: same leathersmiths since 2017, same vegetable dyes, same 8-stitches-per-inch standard."

We partner with a family-owned atelier in the medina of Marrakech, where leatherworking has been a sacred craft since the 11th century. This isn't outsourcing—it's creative collaboration:
"While our roots are deep in Brooklyn’s creative soil, our craft reaches across continents to partner with multi-generational leather workshops in Marrakech’s ancient medina. These aren’t transactions—they’re dialogues. We bring Brooklyn’s obsession with functional design; they bring 11th-century stitching techniques. Together, we create pieces that honor both worlds while uplifting artisan communities where tradition is the ultimate innovation."
